Moïse Katumbi continues to evince great loyalty and patriotism to his country, Democratic Republic of Congo, even at the cost of millions of dollars.
Despite the harsh conditions of the ruling government that the club operates in, continental football envoys TP Mazembe have fortified millions of dollars to prove its solidarity and patriotism to the nation.
Mazembe have had their US$6 million annual grant from government blocked by the Ministry of Finance since 2019 for unknown reasons but continue to represent the nation favourably in international competitions.
After qualification into the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League, Mazembe refused to carry CAF’s “Visit Rwanda” advertisement signage on its jersey amidst tensions between the DR Congo and Rwanda.
The decision taken by Katumbi resulted in his club receiving just half of the US$1 million funding from CAF.
Katumbi’s decision results in a a huge shortfall for the club but above all a sacrifice which highlights the highest sense of patriotism and the Club President’s general attachment and sympathy to the Congolese population in the war-torn eastern region.
