The Katangaise Foundation of Haut-Katanga Province are stepping up to firmly defend former Republican President Joseph Kabila Kabange against what it has described as “populist and dangerous drift.”
The Foundation, socio-cultural body, has cited Minister of State for Justice Constant Mutamba as the orchestrator of this politically motivated judicial fight against Kabila.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Katangaise Foundation said “No to the instrumentalization of justice: stop the judicial circus against President Joseph Kabila Kabange,” the statement reads.
The Katangaise Foundation openly accused the Mutamba of “seriously violating the principles of the rule of law by taking public positions and judicial initiatives” that normally should be under the jurisdiction of magistrates and judges.
Unfortunately and beyond the institutional dysfunction, it is the honorary figure of Joseph Kabila who is at the heart of the indignation orchestrated by the government of the day.
“Justice cannot be used to humiliate a historical and emblematic figure like His Excellency
Joseph Kabila Kabange, former head of state and the only senator for life in our country,” Katangaise Foundation National President Dieudonné Banga Mukose added.
The Katangaise Foundation added that Joseph Kabila is not just an ordinary citizen as he is one of the pillars of the DR Congo and holds a special status which is legitimately recognized by the Constitution.
“By ignoring this status, Minister Mutamba is trampling not only on the Constitution, but also on the very foundations of our democracy,” the statement reads.
Minister of Justice Constant Mutamba has submitted a requested before the Senate to consider lifting Kabila’s immunity in order for the former president to be prosecuted following accusations on his alleged links to the AFC-M23 rebel movement.
