KINSHASA SET FOR SHOWDOWN: Governor Bans Wednesday Opposition March But Fayulu, Mukwenge And Co. Out To Defy The Order

The Democratic Republic of Congo capital Kinshasa could be set for a massive showdown this Wednesday, 27 December as the ongoing 2023 General Election continues to ferment chaos.

Government in Kinshasa the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo have banned the opposition from holding a peaceful march to demonstrate against the ongoing electoral process.

However, the opposition candidates including Martin Fayulu, Denis Mukwege, Jean-Claude Baende and Nkema Liloo remain determined to go on with the march despite the order by government.

Kinshasa Governor Gentiny Ngobila on Tuesday met the opposition candidates and informed them decision not to allow the public demonstration planned for Wednesday December 27, 2023 in Kinshasa.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Peter Kazadi also confirmed the ban on this demonstration earlier in the day and said he had taken all necessary measures to maintain public order.

However, Fayulu and the opposition candidates also later confirmed they would go on with the march to protest against “the birth of a new political crisis” arising from the lack of legitimacy in the leaders of the institutions of the government as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) following a sham of an election held December 20, 2023, illegally extended and irregularly until December 25, 2023.
