Heavy rains have once again hit the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) capital Kinshasa overnight since Thursday to Friday, May 2, killing at least six people and causing significant damage to property.
Several municipalities in the capital, including Ngaliema, Mont Ngafula, Kisenso, Kalamu, and Limeté, were severely affected by flooding, landslides, as well as the spread of erosion heads.
In the neighborhood of Camp Luka, in the commune of Ngaliema, five people, mostly children, have died.
According to residents of this working-class neighborhood, the gutter that connects from Météo was blocked thus causing an overflow of water that damaged several houses down here, near Mbama Street eventually resulting in the five deaths recorded.
In Mount Ngafula, a 9-month-old girl also lost her life following a landslide.
Several houses in the communes of Ngaliema, Kisenso, and Mont Ngafula were destroyed by landslides.
