GOALKEEPER & GOAL SCORER: Aliou Faty Badara Becomes First Keeper to Score in the Congolese Classico as Mazembe Edge Vita

Senegalese stopper Aliou Faty Badara become the first goalkeeper to score a goal in the history of the Congolese Ligue 1’s biggest fixture between TP Mazembe and AS Vita played on Saturday in Kamalondo where the hosts ran out 3-0 victors.

Mazembe’s win edged them closer to clinching the Ligue 1 as they currently lead the table in the play-offs but it was Aliou Faty Badara who stole the limelight as he took the long out of his department to a penalty which he expertly converted with his opposite Farid Ouedraogo in goal for Vita.

Badara who joined Mazembe at the start of the season from Senegalese side Casa Sports, has so far distinguished himself as one of the most essential pieces of Mazembe this term: as goalkeeper and goal scorer.

However, it is not his first goal as a goalkeeper. His calmness, serenity, sense of fixation pushed Mazembe coach Lamine N’Diaye to take this risk without thinking twice.

“He’s so serene, and calm. 9 out of 10, he wrong-footed the goalkeeper. At the CHAN he qualified Senegal for the penalty, he scored one and saved one. In such a match, complicated as it is, it was worth taking it to take the penalty,” N’Diaye said in an interview.

Badara has far enjoyed a stellar debut campaign for Mazembe as he has only conceded 2 goals in 10 games in the Ligue 1 play-offs.
