BUSINESS TRIP: Tshisekedi Arrives in Congo to Discuss New Partnership with Denis Sassou Nguesso

Brely two days after his return from Europe, Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi arrived in the city of Oyo, in neighboring Republic of Congo on Friday as part of a working visit.

Tshisekedi met his Congolese counterpart President Denis Sassou Nguesso and discussed terms for a new mineral trading business in one-on-one closed door meeting.

The Congolese government revealed that the two leaders discussed strategic issues related to economic, political and security cooperation between their two countries.

Discussions would also have focused on issues of common interest, such as the fight against terrorism, cross-border trade and environmental protection.

President Tshisekedi’s trip comes barely two days after his return from Paris to France. The thorny issue of the conflict in eastern Congo had been the focus of exchanges between Félix Tshisekedi and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.

While in Paris, the French president reaffirmed to President Tshisekedi France’s position to never compromise on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the DRC.
