CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Mazembe Held To Draw At Nouadhibou, Remain In Contention For Knockout Stage

Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe were on Saturday held to a barren 0-0 draw against FC Nouadhibou of Mauritania in a Group A TotalEnergies CAF Champions League fixture.

The match played at the Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott was Mazembe’s as well as the hosts’ third group encounter.

Fresh from an important 1-0 victory over African Football League champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the last round of group matches, Mazembe coach Lamine N’diaye maintained much of his starting eleven.

The match was a close to call contest with both Mazembe and the hosts having no or clear chances to score as they defended compactly.

The draw saw Mazembe rise into second position in Group A with 4 points while Sundowns who also played to a barren draw against Pyramids FC of Egypt are top with the same number of points but have a greater goal difference.

Mazembe’s next fixture comes up on Tuesday, 19 December when they host Nouadhibou in the reverse fixture to be played in Lubumbashi.
