Another soldier in the Democratic Republic of Congo Armed Forces (FARDC) in Mikenge, Kasai-Central Province has murdered his wife with the reason behind the killing still unknown.
The soldier, an element of the 123rd battalion in Mikenge, on the highlands of Mwenga (Itombwe Section), is said to have shot and killed his wife on the evening of Wednesday, 30 August 2023.
Military officials have confirmed the unfortunate development caused by the soldier who has since been captured and detained.
“There is a woman who was killed by our element here in Mikenge. We have just got our hands on him and he will answer to justice. We were surprised by the detonation but the reason which pushed him to kill his wife remains unknown,” said the commander of the 123rd battalion, Colonel John Mandumba.
Sources have revealed that the FARDC army personnel had initially fled after committing the murder before he was apprehended and has since been sent 12th Brigade in Minembwe where he will undergo trial.
The incident is the latest involving army soldier involved in the murder of their spouses and civilians following similar incidents that occured twice just last month.
