Following the bailout of the women’s team that was stranded in Lubumbashi by leading Congolese opposition leader Moise Katumbi, the owner of AS Kabasha, an ally of President Felix Tshisekedi, has gone for the officials.
Richard Bongania yesterday ordered the arrest of the coach and the club secretary of the women’s team.
They have been in police custody since yesterday.
AS Kabasha women’s team was in Lubumbashi for the Women’s National Championship but reported they could not arrange transport fares back to Kivu, their accommodation had run out and were living on empty stomachs.
The information reached Katumbi, the President of TP Mazembe, sports fanatic himself, invited the team and bailed them out.
That gesture hit the national airwaves and went viral much to the annoyance of the ruling party and its supporters who mounted pressure on Bongania to denounce it.
It was not the first time Katumbi has bailed out sports teams.
