From time immemorial, Zambia has hosted millions of Congolese refugees. The scenario is not going to change in the near future should the Democratic Republic of Congo implode after a shambolic election period.
Former Zambian Vice-president Enock Kavindele and Matero MP Miles Sampa, as SADC observers in Congo, made comments suggesting the election was free and fair.
On the ground, the election was chaotic and disastrous. Other observers such as the CENCO-ECC and African Union are even demanding the cancellation of the election.
The opposition, too, are urging the CENI to cancel the poll which has given incumbent a soviet styled victory at over 70% ahead of the actual winner Moise Katumbi who according to parallel voter tabulation scored a little over 65%.
The influx of Kasais, predominantly Tshisekedi’s relatives in Zambia, means more thieves on the streets.
And the economy will suffer dearly. But Kavindele and Sampa saw their bellies first before anything else.
