SOLDIERS ABANDON LUBUMBASHI POST: Popular Uprising Threatens DRC Peace

Tension is rising in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the aftermath of a catastrophic election that has been rejected by the population.

The Congolese defence forces (FARDC) in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga Province have abandoned their military camp in the wake of violent incidents in the city.

Demonstrations have broken out in different parts of the country as the Congolese population protest the legitimacy of the results that have so far been released by the Independent Electoral Commission (CENI).

On Thursday, Lubumbashi residents took to the streets to demand for the cancellation of the election forcing soldiers to withdraw from their posts as the popular uprising continues to threaten peace in the DR Congo.

The 2023 General Elections have been littered with plenty of irregularities that have been deemed as a threat to the integrity and authenticity of the polls.

Equally in the Congolese capital, Kinshasa, tension has been rising with clashes between police and citizens breaking out in the city since Wednesday.
