TP MAZEMBE SUPPORTERS PROTEST: Police Clash With TP Mazembe Supporters After CAF Pulls Out Of Lubumbashi Due To Political Interference

Police in Lubumbashi deployed heavy presence to stop a protest mounted by TP Mazembe supporters after their match with Esperance has been taken to Tanzania due to political interference by President Felix Tshisekedi.

The government of Tshisekedi has denied CAF officials visas to stage the Africa Club Champions League match this weekend.

Tshisekedi and his government are scared that the match is a platform that attracts massive support for opposition leader Moise Katumbi who is chairman of the club.

Katumbi has been chairman of Mazembe for nearly 20 years, even before Tshisekedi became president of his party UDPS.

The TP Mazembe supporters launched a demonstration today but were met with resistance as they went to their Kamalondo stadium in Congo’s second largest city.
