[VIDEO] KASUMBALESA: Congolese Traders, Majority Kasaïs, Clash With Zambia Immigration Officers At Busy Border

A major operation by immigration officers from Zambia to curb illegal trading has triggered a riot at the border with Congolese traders turning to looting.

Property worth millions of kwacha has been destroyed.

Most of the looters identified themselves as ruling party, UDPS, supporters. They chanted slogans in support of President Felix Tshisekedi who is also a kasai.

The population in Kasumbalesa has seen an increase of Kasaïs since President Tshisekedi took power in 2018.

According to eye witnesses, the Kasaïs were upset with strict measures by Zambian authorities curbing smuggling through an unofficial route known as Bilanga.
