Congolese giants TP Mazembe clash with continental rivals and record African champions Al Ahly of Egypt this afternoon in a crunch TotalEnergies CAF Champions League semi-final first leg encounter to be played in Kamalondo.
With a staggering 16 Champions League between them, Mazembe and Ahly’s clash this afternoon promises to grab the attention of continent today.
Mazembe have been on an impressive run on their return to the knockout phases of the competition after seeing off Angolan side Petro de Luanda 2-1 over two legs in the last eight to secure their place in the semis for the first time in five years.
Lamine N’diaye’s side now look to use home advantage to dispatch the reigning African champions, Ahly, in the first leg before traveling to Cairo in a week’s time for the return leg.
Mazembe are unbeaten across their last 17 home games in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Ahly will also set their sights on a bright start before wrapping up the tie in Cairo.
The two sides last met in 2012 when they were in Group B of that year’s CAF Champions League with Al Ahly claiming a 2-1 home win while Mazembe won 2-0 at in Lubumbashi.
