Respected Catholic Priest Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo has strongly opposed the Democratic Republic of Congo’s decision to scrap off the prohibition on the death sentence.
The DR Congo government justified their decision to reintroduce the death penalty that had been prohibited since 2003 as part of their efforts to prevent the Congolese citizenry from rebellion and terrorism against the nation.
Cardinal Ambongo has blasted and branded the DR Congo government as the “real traitors” for their move which is an infringement on the human right to life.
He added that the reintroduction of the death penalty is a step backwards and the notion of punishing traitors is vague because the real traitors are the Congolese government who have failed in their mandate to serve the population.
