TEAM OF THE TOURNAMENT: Two Leopards Make CAF Best XI For AFCON

Two Democratic Republic of Congo players have been named in the CAF Team of the Tournament for the just concluded 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.

Captain of the side and defence pillar Chancel Mbemba as well as attacker Yoane Wissa have both featured in the best eleven after impressive performances at the tournament.

Mbemba who played a crucial role at back for Sebastien Desabre’s side, features among the best defenders at the tournament alongside Player of the Tournament and Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong and his Super Eagles teammate Ola Aina as well as Ghislan Konan of Ivory Coast, the champions.

Meanwhile, Wissa who scored twice for the Leopards at the tournament, also lines up against some of the best performers in attack including tournament top scorer Emilio Nsue Lopez of Equatorial Guinea as well as Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman.

The Leopards finished fourth at the tournament after crashing out at the hands of eventual winners Ivory Coast 1-0 in the semi-final before losing to South Africa in the third-place play-off match on penalties.
