SPOILS SHARED: Late Substitute Fiston Mayele to the Resuce as Leopards Snatch Important Point Off Senegal

The Democratic Republic of Congo have held Senegal to a 1-1 draw in an entertaining Group B 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier played at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Dakar this Thursday evening.

Second-half substitute Fiston Mayele Kalala came off the bench to rescue the Leopards from defeat at hands of Senegal.

The hosts took the lead through Olympique Marseille star Ismaila Sarr just moments to the half-time break to send Aliou Cisse’s Teranga Lions holding the advantage at the interval.

DR Congo were still trailing 8 minutes remaining to full-time before coach Sebastien Desabre made two decisive changes bringing on Egyptian based striker Fiston Mayele Kalala for Elia Meshack and Joris Kayembe on for Arthur Masuaku.

Mayele and Kayembe needed just three minutes on the pitch to combine and got the equalizer as the former picked up a brilliant pass before unleashing a ferocious strike to beat Edouard Mendy in goal for the hosts.

After tonight’s result, DR Congo maintain third position in Group B with 4 points and will next face Togo in Kinshasa on Sunday.
