DR Congo could face possible sanctions from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents that transpired at the Pentecost Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa where the Leopards rallied to a 2-0 win over Sudan last Saturday.
At the match that confirmed the Leopards’ qualification for the AFCON, acts of vandalism could be seen as fans invaded the field of play to express their excitement.
The Congolese FA, FECOFA, have also been mentioned for their poor organization and handling of the crowd at the Pentecost Martyrs Stadium where over 70,000 fans gained access which is well over the 54,000 authorized by CAF.
Also to add, kick off of the match was delayed by around 30 minutes as decided by the CAF commissioner following the crowd disturbances that occured at the stadium.
According to various online reports, Sudan are now set to file an official complaint to CAF with evidence to show the DR Congo had violated the continental football governing body’s stipulations on the crowd capacity.
Credible news sources have also confirmed that in-depth investigation will be opened by CAF with the DR Congo facing heavy penalties that may include fines while the supporters could also be banned.
