Vital Kamerhe should have been the one contesting for presidency in the December 20, 2023 ticket if President Felix Tshisekedi was a sincere, honest and fair human being. But he was dribbled.

The two agreed that they go into a coalition in which President Tshisekedi was to contest as President in 2018 when they broke away from the opposition coalition Lamuka which had Martin Fayulu, Moise Katumbi, Jean Pierre Bemba and Adolph Muzito.

When Kamerhe and President Tshisekedi broke away, they became an easy target for a negotiated transfer of power. It was Kamerhe who had a stronger link to Kabila and accepted the bargain when the former president approached the dual.

Kamerhe thought Tshisekedi would give him leeway in 2023 especially that he was appointed Chief of Staff and given a multi-million dollar project to run as part of the 100 day development project.

It was a trap! Kamerhe was cornered for corruption. That is how his bid to take over as Democratic Republic of Congo’s next president by contesting the election this year on the ruling party ticket was curtailed.

All he can now do is get pictures with Congolese music stars like Ferre Gora and be seen about the presidency. His political career was quashed after conviction and jailing.

Lessons to prospective politicians.
