The M23 Rebel Group have continued to advance in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and have seized the town of Vitshumbi, an important fishing territory in the region.
Vitshumbi is the latest territory that the M23 have managed to occupy following a week of fighting with the Congolese army (FARDC) who have not been able to contain the rebels.
The M23 took over the fishing town of Vitshumbi on Monday as they made their arrival around 11AM without combats and asked the local population to freely go about their activities.
The presence of the M23 had already been expected by some locals who had already fled to other areas using boats through Lake Edward.
Vitshumbi becomes the 10th town to fall into the hands of the M23 in just 7 days after the capturing Kibirizi, Kibingu, Kabanda, Kashalira, Kirima, Rwindi Bwalanda, Nyanzale and Kikuku.
