The town of Kindu in Maniema Province was characterized with scenes of joy and celebration following the provisional release of Salomon Kalonda Idi, the special advisor to opposition leader Moïse Katumbi, from prison.
Several activists who were overjoyed, converged at the Ensemble Pour la Republique party headquarters to express their relief and gratitude.
The crowd chanted words of joy and gratitude to celebrate the decision made by the Military Court.
One of the activists on the scene expressed happiness: “He was arrested illegally, but now he is released. We thank God for his freedom.”
On Wednesday, Laurent Onyemba, one of Salomon Kalonda’s lawyers revealed that the Military Court had finally granted provisional release of his client due to the deterioration of his health.
This decision will allow Kalonda to seek treatment outside the country, in accordance with the medical recommendations.
Salomon Kalonda Idi was arrested on May 30, 2023 at N’djili airport, in Kinshasa on false allegations of plotting to oust President Fèlix Tshisekedi.
