After spending over 130 days in custody at the state intelligence agency, Agence Nationale de Renseignements (ANR), the family of arrested Equity BCDC Bank Regional Director Patrick Mulaj Kapong have demanded his immediate release.
Mulaj Kapong, a Regional Director at the Equity BCDC Bank in Lubumbashi, has been kept in custody at the ANR since January 10 after being arrested for an alleged case of embezzlement of funds belonging to the bank.
While on a working trip in Kinshasa, Mulaj Kapong was initially suspected to have been kidnapped after going missing before the ANR confirmed he had been taken under arrest.
He has since remained in custody for five months but is yet to be officially charged.
In a letter availed to the public on Friday, Mulaj Kapong’s family has since demanded for his release from ANR detention.
Mulaj Kapong’s family have bemoaned the authorities’ conduct to keep their relative under detention without giving clear reasons behind the arrest.
The family also alleged that the authorities had been working under the instructions of Equity BCDC Bank to continue keeping Mulaj Kapong in detention.
