FREE MAN: Stanis Bujakera Salutes Journalists & International Community For Support During His Incaceration

International journalist Stanis Bujakera has paid tribute to media organizations and the international community for forming up to offer their support and condemn his illegal incaceration by the Congolese government.

Bujakera was finally released from Makala Central Prison on Wednesday where he had spent over six months in custody on charges of publishing falsehoods.

Various local and international media organizations as well as the international community stepped up to denounce the Congolese government’s ridiculous and false charges against the Reuters correspondent.

In a statement released on Thursday, Bujakera has expressed his gratitude to colleagues in the media as well as the international community for standing by his side while he was imprisoned.

Bujakera has thanked Actualite.cd, where he works as deputy editor, as well as Reuters and Jeune Afrique for whom he serves as a correspondent.

He had been accused of publishing a story about the late former Transport & Communications Minister Cherubin Okende in which it was suggested that he had been assassinated by ANR agents.
