CUSTOMARY JUSTICE: Cherubin Okende’s Family Promise to Take Traditional Means to Get Justice

Assassinated former Transport Minister Cherubin Okende’s family have sworn to go the traditional way to obtain justice.

At the wake held this Wednesday in Kinshasa, Okende’s family expressed deep shock at the tragic death of the deceased and swore to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

“From this day of burial, let everyone who participated in the death of Chérubin Okende begin to count their days,” declares Georges Oyemba, member of the family.

Customary justice, which is anchored in the traditions and values of the community, plays an important role in the Congolese society.

It is often used as a means of resolving conflicts and providing justice to victims.

Okende was brutally killed in his car after being shot multiple times in the stomach by ANR agents with the authorities ridiculously claiming that he had committed suicide.
