EMPTY WORDS: Clueless Congo Government Promise to Make “Proportional” Reaction to Goma Bombing Attacks

The ever-promising but non-delivering Democratic Republic of Congo government of Felix Tshisekedi says it will be making a proportional response to the recent bombing attacks of displaced people’s camp in the city of Goma, North Kivu Province.

On Friday, about 10 people were killed and several others injured following explosions that were dropped at the Lac Verts camp for the displaced people in the wake of intensified fighting between the M23 rebels and the local armed groups supported by the Congolese army (FARDC) and the government.

In a statement issued by Interior Affairs Minister Peter Kazadi at the end of the Minister’s Council Meeting chaired by outgoing Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde on Friday, the Congolese government accused Rwanda of been responsible for the bombings and promised to respond proportionally as well as the bring the matter before the UN Security Council.

“We will now make a proportional response to this provocative act,” announced Kazadi, “The government of the Republic wishes to denounce this practice of the M23 terrorists who have only recently had targets in refugee camps, therefore civilian objectives which have nothing to do with military targets. We, as a government, will in the coming days seize the UN Security Council to denounce these facts, these flagrant violations of humanitarian rights because war has rules. And these negative forces led by the Rwandans start to kill civilians, so we will bring this matter before the competent international authorities,” he added.

However, the Congolese population in the east has grown frustrated over the Felix Tshisekedi regime’s complicity and failure to manage the security situation in the region critically.
