A day after forcing the cancellation of the opposition protest in Kinshasa, President Felix Tshisekedi has ordered that opposition leader Augustin Matata Mapon should not be allowed to travel to Ituri in east Congo.
Matata, who is collaborating with other opposition leaders in Martin Fayulu, Moise Katumbi and Delly Sesanga, ahead of the December 20 presidential elections becomes the latest of the four to be blocked from transversing the country.
Matata, a former Prime Minister, writes “I have just been banned from traveling to N’djili airport by the DGM services so that I connect to Bunia (Ituri) where I was expected by the population of Ituri. The order came from the Presidency of the Republic. As a presidential candidate, it appears I can no longer travel to other parts of the country.”
More tha 49 million Congolese will go to the polls in December to elect a new leader and tension is rising in most parts of the country especially with the heavy handed approach Tshisekedi has deployed against the opposition.
