CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Mazembe Thrash Malawi Champions To Reach Group Stage

Democratic Republic of Congo flag carriers in this season’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League TP Mazembe have cruised into the group stage of the competition after thrashing Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets 4-0 at the Stade de TP Mazembe today.

Four goals in the first-half by Lamine N’Diaye’s charges helped the DR Congo champions annihilate Nyasa Big Bullets 5-0 on aggregate having won the first leg played in Lilongwe 1-0 a fortnight ago.

Captain of the side Kevin Mondeko put the Ravens in front after just five minutes played in Kamalondo before midfield maestro Glody Likonza made it 2-0 in the 12th minute.

Nyasa Big Bullets’ afternoon went from bad to worse as Malian star Cheick Fofana who scored in the first-leg, added a third in the 27th minute.

Merceil Ngimbi wrapped up Mazembe’s dominant first-half performance with another goal in the 40th minute to go into the interval leading comfortably.

The five-time African champions continued their ball possession dominance over the Malawians in the second half but could not to their goal tally despite coming close.

Mazembe have since reached the the group phase of the premier continental club competition and now switch attention to inaugural African Football League competition.

The Lubumbashi giants are scheduled to face Tunisian side Esperance Sportive des Tunis on 21st October in the first leg quarter-final encounter to be played in the DR Congo.
