BROTHER’S KEEPER: TP Mazembe Offers ‘Homeless’ Congolese Teams Its Facility For CAF Fixtures

Congolese giants TP Mazembe has offered its stadium for use to any Congolese club participating in the CAF competition after the country’s other two major sports facilities – Stade des Martyrs and Kibasa Maliba – failed inspection tests.

Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa is used by the Congolese national team, AS Vita and DC Motema Pembe while FC Lupopo plays its home matches at Kibasa Maliba in Lubumbashi when in active use.

CAF inspectors were in the Democratic Republic of Congo a few weeks ago for a routine check of stadiums and found that only Stade de Mazembe had met the requirements for hosting international matches.

In a statement, TP Mazembe General Manager Kitenge Kinkumba says the Lubumbashi top-side is offering its facility as a gesture of national responsibility and club hospitality.

“TP Mazembe has taken note of the decisions of CAF confirming the non-approval of two of our stadiums, the Martyrs and Kibassa, for major competitions.

“President Moise Katumbi confirms that the TP Mazembe stadium was built for Congolese youth and all teams are welcome there. The Chairman offers the hospitality of this stadium to all Congolese clubs to perform there,” said Mr. Kinkumba.

Congolese population has risen in uproar against its leaders for failing to maintain especially the world class 80, 000 seater Stade de Martyr.

The population is demanding the resignation of sport minister Serge Nkonde.
