The Congolese Association for Access to Justice (ACAJ) has asked the head of military intelligence to transfer Salomon Kalonda, special advisor of opposition leader Moïse Katumbi, from the military location of DEMIAP to competent judicial authorities for civil adjudication so he can present facts and defend his innocence.
ACAJ coordinator Georges Kapiamba who has condemned Salomon’s arrest as unconstitutional says it is important for authorities to bring the person they accuse before justice.
“I strongly call on the head of military intelligence (ex-Demiap) to transfer Mr. Salomon Idi Kalonda to the competent judicial authority to allow him to validly organize his defense in relation to the facts attributed to him,” said Kapiamba in a statement.
Kapiamba says the circumstances of the arrest of Salomon at N’djili International in Kinshasa on May 30 violated article 17 of the Democratic Republic of Congo constitution.
Salomon has been slapped false charges of plotting to overthrow President Felix Tshisekedi and that he was allegedly collaborating with M23 rebels.
The charges of the illegal gun have been disproved after another opposition leader Augustin Matata Mpon has emerged with revelations that the firearm in question belonged to his bodyguard and was lost on May 25, 2023 during a sit protest.
