[VIDEO] KATA KATANGA: Christian Mwando Gets Backing From Another Lawmaker Over Secession

A lawmaker has backed remarks by opposition member Christian Mwando who has warned that should Moise Katumbi be blocked from contesting the election on December 20, 2023, the youths in the region of grand Katanga have resolve to secede.

The remarks have received widespread condemnation from Kinshasa with Patrick Muyaya, the media and communication minister, saying they were segregationist.

Noel Tshiani, the proponent of the discriminatory and racist Tshiani Law, has also condemned Mwando.

But lawmakers in Katanga have backed Mwando’s remarks saying his statement was representative of the position of Katangese.

Speaking on behalf of Katangese MPs Kahozi Bin-Malisawa says the people of the region request that their position be respected.

“The riches of Congo are in Katanga. We request that we are respected by everyone. We are not respected we go our way. Christian Mwando’s statement represents the position of all Congolese. Nothing else, so respect the Katangese,” Bin-Malisawa says.
