[VIDEO] INDEPENDENCE OF KATANGA: Tshiani Law Triggers Separation Of DRC As Grand Katanga Hold Secession Vigil

The population of Grand Katanga has held a vigil to signal the declaration of independence from the Democratic Republic of Congo on July 11, 2023.

This follows efforts by Kinshasa to enact what has been described as a discriminatory law that seeks to bar candidates without two Congolese parents from contesting the presidential elections.

A flag of Katanga and the national anthem which was played during the time of Moise Tshombe between 1960 and 1964 was sounded in the mineral rich south-east province on April 11, 2023.

Katanga, which hosts the second largest city in DRC – Lubumbashi, has four regions that include Haut Katanga, Lualaba, Haut Lomami and Tanganyika and is the Copper hub of the DRC.

The infamous Tshiani Bill is said to target popular opposition leader Moise Katumbi, whose father Nissim Soriano, settled in the Belgian colony during the Holocaust.
