U-20 WOMENS WORLD CUP QUALIFIER: DR Congo Pip Zambia To Third Round Qualification After Barren Draw In Kinshasa

The DR Congo U-20 national team have progressed into the third round of qualifiers for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after holding favourites Zambia to a 0-0 draw in Kinshasa on Saturday.

The encounter played at the Pentecost Martyrs Stadium was the return leg of last week’s first leg which ended in a 2-2 draw between the two sides in Lusaka.

The Young Leopard Dames put in a resilient performance to ensure they did not concede at home to see off the Zambians.

A barren draw in the end was enough to see the Mulamba Makenga coached girls through to the third round of qualifiers as they progressed on the away goals rule.

Goals by Ruth Nyamboki and Gloria Nosa cancelled out Zambia’s goals at the Nkoloma Stadium last weekend to ensure the Leopards Dames carried an advantage into the second leg.

The DR Congo U-20 girls will now meet Burundi with whom they will battle it out for a place in the final round of qualifiers for the World Cup tournament to be next year in Colombia.
