TSHISEKEDI IS A JOKER: Ex-CENI Chief Says State Of Emergency In North Kivu Has Claimed More Lives, “We Have To Stop This Joker”

Opposition leader Corneille Nangaa Yobeluo says President Félix Tshisekedi’s jokes in the management of the war in east Congo must come to an end.

The former CENI president under Joseph Kabila who has declared his intention to challenge Tshisekedi in the 2023 presidential elections says the state of emergency in Ituri and North Kivu was the type of joke that must come to an end.

Nangaa says there have been more civilian deaths in east Congo in the last two years when President Tshisekedi imposed a State of Emergency in response to the rebel crisis in the region than before.

He says seeing displaced people being massacred as the case was last week when over 50 were killed is a sign of the abandonment of the state.

“The current government must actually resign! We must stop these jokes, they are jokers,” he said.

Nangaa says Tshisekedi must learn to take responsibility with the manner he is managing the country.

“Instead of strengthening the FARDC, they are pampering the armed groups with talk that we must not negotiate,” he said.

DRC has endured civil strife since independence in 1960 with the war in the east among the longest unrest.

More than 30 million Congolese have died from war since independence and millions are displaced.
