TRIBUTES: Katumbi Pays Respect To Chérubin, UNAFEC Youths & Goma Demonstrators; Says No Congolese Should Die Like Chickens

Opposition Ensemble pour la République leader Moise Katumbi at the weekend summoned a moment of silence in remembrance of slained National Deputy Chérubin Okende, over 50 UNAFEC youths and over 50 Goma demonstrators.

President Félix Tshisekedi is overseeing a country that does not respect the lives of Congolese.

In recent times, Congolese have been killed with impunity for exercising their rights.

Army personnel deployed in Katanga gunned down over 50 opposition UNAFEC youths after they clashed with their ruling party counterparts.

On July 13, Ensemble spokesperson Chérubin Okende was assassinated by suspected state officers. And late last week, army personnel killed over 50 demonstrators in Goma.

“Before we can do anything, let’s remember our brothers and sisters who have given up their lives in the fight for a better Congo. There’s Chérubin who was killed in Kinshasa, we also have about 50 UNAFEC youths.

“There’s also our brothers and sisters in Goma. No one deserves to die like that,” he said.

And in his message on X, formerly twitter, Katumbi condemned the carnage in Goma.

“I condemn the massacre that has just taken place in Goma. The victims were unarmed. This killing is a crime against humanity. The images circulating are unbearable because the right to life is sacred! My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims,” he said.

Katumbi expressed disappointment with the government’s inability to put an end to the insecurity in east Congo.

“Throughout the country, criminals are onthe loose. In Goma, an investigation must be carried
out. The perpetrators of the killings and their sponsors must be identified, brought to justice and condemned severely. No
crime can go unpunished,” he said.

Katumbi is displeased with the lack of human life displayed by President Tshisekedi and his leadership.
