THEY ARE OUT: Thembi Kgatlana Leads Banyana Banyana Past DR Congo In Olympics Qualifier

The DR Congo women’s national team has been eliminated from the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers after losing 2-0 to South Africa this afternoon at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.

A second-half brace by Banyana Banyana superstar captain Thembi Kgatlana ended the DR Congo ladies’ hopes of qualifying for the Olympics for the first time history as they edged 3-1 on aggregate.

After a 1-all draw between the two sides in the first leg played four days ago in Kinshasa, the Leopards Dames needed to beat South Africa or force a draw of more than a two-goal margin to stand a chance of progressing to the next round.

Marcello Kadiamba’s side contained the Banyana Banyana who were the better side in the first-half to go into the break with the deadlock still unbroken.

In the second-half, Kgatlana who also scored an important away goal in Kinshasa last Wednesday, steered the Banyana Banyana in front in the 72nd minute.

The USA-based Racing Louisville FC star scored once again in the 88th minute to complete her brace and put the tie beyond the Leopard Dames’ reach.

South Africa have since progressed to the Third Round of the qualifiers for the Summer Games to be held next year.
