THE POLICE ARRESTED: Congolese Army and Police Officers Detained in Kinshasa

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s security and defence systems continues to be compromised with several members of the forces involved in illegal activities themselves.

Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) chief of staff General Christian Tshiwewe Songesha has announced the arrests of several officers from the army and the police for treason.

On Monday during a military parade at Camp Kokolo, General Songesha stressed that the several officers in the army and the police had different secret allegiances with other political figures.

“We are at war. There are those among us who are corrupt and incited to treason, sometimes by our own politicians. Arrests were made in Lubumbashi and here in Kinshasa. It’s serious” General Songesha said but could not give figures of the arrested traitors.

The chief of staff also sent a strong message to the officers present, questioning their loyalty and the consequences of betrayal, while heavily criticizing politicians involved in such activities.

He underlined the importance of denunciation and the severity of the penalties incurred by officers who refuse to collaborate.
