THE PARTY IS OVER: Tshisekedi Cuts Short European Leisurely Trip Following Goma Bombings

Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi has been forced to end his post-election family fun trip in Europe the killings of 9 people with several others injured in Friday’s bombings which hit displaced people’s camp in Goma, North Kivu Province.

Tshisekedi had travelled with his family members to celebrate his re-election in the last December’s elections before he was called to return to Kinshasa where his attention is required urgently amidst growing tensions in the eastern part of the country as the M23 fighters continue to advance.

According to local sources, a shell of projectiles were fired at Lac Vert Camp for displaced people from the front line near the town of Sake of Masisi territory where fighting between the M23 and the Congolese army (FARDC) has intensified over the past few days.

Locals in the eastern region of the DR Congo have grown frustrated over the complacency of Tshisekedi and his government in providing solutions to end the escalation of violence that continues to result in thousands losing their lives and others forced to flee their homes.

While in Europe, Tshisekedi had initially visited Germany and France before heading to Belgium and had been scheduled to fly into Hungary before his trip was cut short.
