TENSION IN GOMA: Policeman Dies In Fresh Demonstrations

A policeman has died in Goma, North Kivu Province after being stoned to death by angry protestants in latest demonstrations held by citizens to express their dissatisfaction over the increasing insecurities in the eastern DR Congo city.

The policeman was pounced on by angry residents while duty and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The incident comes after a male youth and member of a citizen’s movement, was shot dead on the night of Thursday/Friday in Buhene, the vicinity considered to be a hotspot for insecurities in the city.

Citizens of Goma took to the streets to express their displeasure over the death of the young male as well as the ever increasing insecurities in the city.

The demonstrations took place this afternoon, Friday 22nd September, at the Mutinga-Buhene Axis through Majengo situated in the northern part of Goma.

Shops and other business places have since closed following the demonstrations with police resorting to firing warning shots in an attempt to disperse the protestants while roads have been barricaded with large rocks.
