DR Congo international striker Jonathan Bolingi has been hospitalized since last week Thursday when he collapsed while training with his club FK Vojvodina in Serbia.
Bolingi had to be rushed to hospital in Vojvodina where he was placed in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while he was unconscious.
However on Thursday, Minister of Sports & Recreation Claude-François Kabulo Mwana Kabulo revealed that Bolingi had regained consciousness and recovering steadily in hospital.
Mwana Kabulo added that he had been in close contact with the Congolese embassy in Serbia for updates on the former TP Mazembe player’s recovery progress.
The cause of the 29-year old’s illness remains unknown with earlier assertions of possible poisoning ruled out as diagnosis now points to other respiratory conditions.
Bolingi had earlier this month taken advantage of the international window to visit home and was present at the Leopards’ 2-0 victory over Sudan in Kinshasa to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The striker took time to celebrate with and congratulate his compatriots before returning to his Serbian base where he fell ill.
