Popular opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique party leader Moïse Katumbi and his allies have continued to come under fierce and cruel physical attack from outgoing president Fèlix Tshisekedi and his Sacred Union party cadres.
On Thursday, the opposition party’s Provincial Deputy candidate in Haut-Katanga Province Jonathan Kienge Kashetu escaped near death attack from Tshisekedi’s thugs.
The incident happened in Lubumbashi when Kashetu, a popular candidate for the Provincial Deputy seat in Haut-Katanga, and party members were conducting campaigns in the city before they were ruthlessly attacked by armed Sacred Union party thugs.
Members of the opposition party suffered injuries from the attack while Kashetu’s vehicles were smashed by the violent Tshisekedi cadres.
There has been major security concern for Katumbi and his Ensemble Pour la Republique party allies with the National Police unable to provide security as mandated during the period of campaigns.
Tension continues to rise in the DRC’s political arena with Tshisekedi’s camp turning to violence amidst fierce competition from the opposition ahead of Wednesday’s crucial polling day for the 2023 General Elections.
