SOUTH AFRICA ATTACKED IN THE EAST: Two South African Soldiers Killed, Three Injured In Goma Bomb Attack

A bomb dropped in the South Africa National Defence Force (SANDF) base in Goma, North Kivu Province has killed two soldiers and left three others injured.

The SANDF confirmed this morning in a statement that a mortar bomb was dropped into its military base on Wednesday afternoon by the M23 rebels.

“The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) confirms that on 14 February 2024 at about 13h00, a mortar bomb landed inside one of the South African Contingent military bases inflicting casualties and injuries to the SANDF soldiers” the statement reads.

“As a result of this indirect fire, the SANDF suffered two (2) fatalities and three (3) members sustained injuries. The injured were taken to the nearest Hospital in Goma for medical attention.”

The South African contingent is part of the SADC Mission in the DRC that has been deployed to support and assist the Congolese army in its fight against the M23 rebels.

The M23 fighters continue advancing towards the strategic city of Goma having so far managed to occupy several towns and villages.
