RESIGNATIONS: Three Ministers In Haut Katanga Ditch Posts To Focus On Ensemble

Three ministers who joined the government under the Sacred Union in Haut Katanga have quit their posts.

The three have resigned from their provincial posts to focus on their efforts to campaign for the opposition Ensemble ahead of the 2023 presidential and general elections.

These include Chris Mwando Simba (Planning), Chérubin Okende (Transport) and Véronique Kilumba (Health).

The decision comes days after Moise Katumbi, leader of Ensemble, disengaged from the Sacred Union and announced his bid to challenge President Felix Tshisekedi in the December 2023 polls.

Sacred Union was a working coalition between Ensemble and UDPS which has since been dissolved.

Salomon Kalonda, a top official in Ensemble, congratulated the trio’s bold step.

“I salute the strength of conviction of the ministers of @Ensemble_MK who have left the Government,” he says.

Kalonda says the decision by Christian Mwando Simba, Okende and Kilumba was a mark of sacrifice for the country in which they set aside their personal interests to serve the interest of the greater good of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“From now on, it is forward and no turning back. It’s up to us to build another RDC with Moise Katumbi,” he says.

The DRC will go to the polls on December 20, 2023 with Katumbi seen as a fierce challenger to incumbent President Tshisekedi.
