PEACEFUL RESOLUTION: Emmanuel Macron Insists on a “Negotiated Solution” to Settle Ongoing Conflict Between DR Congo & Rwanda

French President Emmanuel Macron has insisted on having a “negotiated solution” to settle the ongoing tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

In a telephone discussion with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, who plays the role of mediator in the crisis, Macron encouraged the idea of Presidents Fèlix Tshisekedi of the DR Congo and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame finding an amicable solution to the ongoing crisis.

“The President of the Republic (Emmanuel Macron) welcomed the commitment of the Angolan President to the situation in Eastern Congo, in particular his recent diplomatic initiatives, and reiterated his full support for these regional mediation processes to find a negotiated solution to the conflict, as he also reminded the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, and the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi,” the Elysée announced in a press release.

Preparations for a meeting between Tshisekedi and Kagame in Luanda are underway with the Congolese Ambassador to Angola, Christophe Lutundula having paid President João Lourenço a visit to discuss the upcoming exchange between the two presidents.

Meanwhile the M23 Rebels, who are said to be supported by Rwanda, are trying to take control of the town of Saké, which the last barrier before the strategic city Goma in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
