PEACE & SPORT AWARDS: Lubumbushi-Based NGO Recognized At International Awards

Malaika Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Lubumbushi, Haut-Katanga Province, has been recognized with an international accolade at the 2023 Peace & Sport Awards recently held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Founded in 2007 by Congolese/Cypriot model and humanitarian Noëlla Coursaris Musunka, Malaika works to provide education, clean water, and electricity to the village of Kalebuka in Lubumbushi.

Malaika were on Wednesday, 18th October presented with an award for their part in using sporting intiatives to promote peace at an awards’ ceremony held in Riyadh on the sidelines of the Peace & Sport Middle-east Forum.

Maguy Safi Makanda, coach of the girls’ team at Malaika as well as assistant coach for Congolese women’s league champions TP Mazembe, received the award on behalf of the foundation.

The awards ceremony sponsored by Team Saudi was also attended by Senegalese national superstar Sadio Mané.

Malaika’s community centre, the Kalebuka Football for Hope, offers free literacy and vocational education, health classes and sports programmes to out-of-school youth and adults in partnership with FIFA.
