NEW TENSIONS IN GOMA: At Least 20 Injured In Latest Violent Clashes In Nyiragongo Territory

About 20 people have been left injured and hospitalized following new violent clashes between Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and the M23 Rebels in Nyiragongo territory of Goma, North Kivu Province.

The violent clashes that broke out on Monday 23rd October near the Kanyaruchinya Health Center causing some of the admitted patients to flee the hospital in to seek refuge from the fighting and shelling.

The fighting spilled into Tuesday, 24th October when an officer of the peacekeeping East African States Regional Force (EAC) was killed following mortar shot fired at Kibumba locality.

The humanitarian aid organization in Goma, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reported on Tuesday that it had so far treated around twenty injured people at Kanyaruchinya health center, while ten more patients were referred to Kyeshero hospital.

The DRC government has since blamed the M23 Rebels whom they claim have been backed by Rwanda, for these latest attacks in the eastern part of the country.

“Rwanda has once again been caught red-handed by our drones. These images reveal a new incursion by the Rwandan army to reinforce the M23 terrorists, proving their direct involvement in the ongoing conflict in North Kivu “, said Mr. Patrick Muyaya, the Government spokesperson.
