LIGUE 1: Vita Club Handed Shock Defeat Away At Bottom-placed Étoile du Kivu

League favourites AS Vita Club were on Sunday handed a shock 1-0 defeat by Étoile du Kivu who celebrated their first win of the season.

Bottom of the table with just a point after six matches played, Étoile du Kivu were the underdogs over the Kinshasa giants heading into the encounter played at the Concorde Stadium in Bukavu.

However, Vita’s suffered a setback as early as the 15th minute into the match as defender Irenée Togbedji Glele was sent off for a reckless change.

The hosts would then take the lead from the m resultant free-kick as attacker Elvis “Shuga” Nadila struck beautifully to put his side ahead.

Étoile du Kivu would go into the half-time leading with a solitary goal by Nadila as Vita were still looking for ways to recover from their sending off setback.

The home side maintained their lead in the second half to record an encouraging first win of the season.

Now on 4 points Étoile du Kivu remain bottom of the table in Group B of the Congolese Ligue 1 while Vita also maintained third position.

AS Maniema Union still unbeaten lead the table with 24 points after racking up eight wins and a draw so far this season.
