LEOPARDS DRAW AGAIN: DRC Record Second Stalemate At CHAN

Democratic Republic of Congo’s Leopards last night collected another point in a goalless draw against Cote d’Ivoire at the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The match played at the May 19, 1956 Stadium in Annaba, Algeria was the two-time champions’ second draw of the competition.

Congo were held to a goalless draw against Uganda in the opening match of the competition.

It puts the chances of the Otis Ngoma drilled side in a precarious situation as they must beat Senegal on Sunday to secure a quarterfinal place.

Senegal, who defeated Cote d’Ivoire in their first Group B match, were on the losing end to Uganda last night.

Both Uganda and DRC drew their first match with the former now topping Group B on four point, one ahead of Senegal who also have an identical advantage over the Leopards.

The Ivorians ended the match in numerical disadvantage after their teammate Mohamed Zougrana was sent off in the 87th minute of play.

It was too little, too late for the Congolese to use to their advantage as the match still ended goalless.

Congolese striker Jonathan Ikangalombo was voted man of the match. The home-based DRC side will play their last match of the group on Sunday, January 22 against the Lions of Teranga of Senegal while Uganda take on Cote d’Ivoire.
