KASINDI TERROR: Katumbi Condemns Barbaric Act

Democratic Republic of Congo opposition leader Moise Katumbi Chapwe has described last Sunday’s terror attack on Kasindi, a village in North Kivu, as barbaric and inhuman.

Nearly 20 people died and several others injured when a terrorist group affiliated to ISIS attacked a Pentecostal Church in Kasindi, near Beni in North Kivu on January 15, 2023.

Katumbi, a presidential candidate in the December 20, 2023 elections, said his mission is to restore peace and harmony to the eastern parts of the Congo which has endured years of civil war.

“I condemn in the strongest terms the barbaric act perpetrated this Sunday in Kasindi. My prayers go out to the families of the victims. Terrorist acts, such as hate speech, have no place in the DRC. As president, I will restore peace and bring the Congolese together,” he said.

Meanwhile, area Member of Parliament Moïse Nyarugabo condemned the attack and called on the government to find a formula to put an end to the insecurity.

“What just happened in Beni is a cowardly, barbaric and unspeakable act. But the drama is a daily ordeal that lasts for years. My compassion to the Nande people and all the people of North Kivu. The state must find a formula to end this,” he said.

Nyarugabo says an uncompromising assessment of all the related processes is necessary in order to readjust and protect the people of Congo.
