KATANGA SOLDIER JAILED: Major General Ijila Yav Sent To Prison For 6 Years

The regionalism of the UDPS ruling party has seen the jailing of a Katangese senior military officer in Kinshasa.

Sources have disclosed that Major-General Ijila Yav was dismissed from the army and sentenced to 6 years in prison for alleged misappropriation of military equipment belonging to the Congolese army.

Sources in the Congolese army say General Yav is a victim of a strong wave of tribalism that has rocked the military.

“There’s a lot of suspicion about anyone from Katanga so the leadership is finding anything even unrelated to those they fear to eliminate senior personnel from Katanga. General Yav is just a victim of tribalism that Kasais are advancing against Katangese,” the source said.
