KAMERHE FOR VICE-PRESIDENT: Kamerhe Confirms He Is Not A Candidate For PM Or National Assembly President Positions

DR Congo President Fèlix Tshisekedi’s ally Vital Kamerhe has revealed he is not in the running for the Prime Minister or National Assembly Presidency as the newly-elected government prepares for the amendment of the constitution.

Kamerhe’s party, the A/A-UNC (Action Des Alliés and Union pour la Nation Congolaise), is part of a political pact which Tshisekedi in the 2023 General Elections.

As he plans to stay on in power after the end of his current five-year mandate, Tshisekedi is set to initiate the process for amendment of the constitution which will also create a new position of vice-president reserved for Kamerhe.

Kamerhe has since confirmed he is not a candidate for the Prime Minister role which will soon be scrapped off after the amendment of the constitution.

“The position of Prime Minister and that of President of the National Assembly is at the discretion of the President of the Republic. I’m not a candidate for any of that” Kamerhe said.

Tshisekedi plans to make former warlord and Jean-Pierre Bemba as his Prime Minister initially before amending the constitution which will pave way for his stay in office after 2028.
